Primagaz And Avia Inaugurate Public CNG Station On Montélimar Bypass
Feb 25, 2018

French gas supplier Primagaz and filling station company Avia have opened a public Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refueling station on the ring road of Montélimar in south-eastern France. The opening follows their October 2017 opening of a new CNG station on the French motorway network near Limoges. The companies jointly plan in the short term to open twenty CNG stations but say 40 to 50 stations is possible.

The buoyant context in which Primagaz and Avia are aiming for an initial 30% market share, says François Brunero, director of commercial development of Primagaz, is encouragement by the French Government to create a network of refueling CNG of excellence, to support the transport sector in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.

Road transport professionals can now refuel with CNG at the Avia station, located on Avenue du Meyrol in the immediate vicinity of the N7, a national trunk road between Paris and the border with Italy. Future stations will gradually roll out in locations related to logistic hubs and major freight intersections on main roads.

“The opening of this new public station continues our efforts to facilitate the acceptance by professionals of this fuel of the future. Natural gas represents an alternative to traditional fuels and actively participates in sustainable mobility. It emits less CO² and very little fine particles, nitrogen oxides and other pollutants; it thus contributes to reducing the impact of transport on the emissions of these pollutants,”- explains Matthieu Lassalle, Sales and Marketing Director of Primagaz.

European market refuelling infrastructure

A pioneer in the distribution of fuel LPG, Primagaz is now strengthening its position in the CNG market and, along with Avia, the second largest oil company in France, is taking part in the reconfiguration of the fuel market.

The Primagaz and Avia initiative is part of the blue corridor strategy, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of road transport in Europe. The European Commission has set a target, by 2025, of establishing a network of NGV refueling stations every 400km along the Trans-European Central Network (TEN-T) routes. The French government, for its part, plans to further densify this network to amplify the ecological transition of the transport sector and amplify the positive effects of the change of fuel.
